Not too many people were born
with “pipes” for professional announcing. If you have been confronted
with the stark reality that you are no James Earl Jones, you may find
some relief through technology. Computer software
exists to alter the sound of your voice and give you the creative edge.
You can morph your voice quality to intimidate other players when
playing video games online or surprise friends the next time they IM you. The possibilities are endless with the following computer programs.

  • MorphVOX Jr., Vocal Transformation Pro or AV Voice Changer Diamond software

      Download and install MorphVOX
      Jr. (see Resources). Launch MorphVox and let the “The MorphVOX Doctor”
      guide you through optimizing the software to work with your voice.
      Change your gender using the “Man” or “Woman” presets, or choose the
      “Tiny Folks” preset to give you a more elfin-like quality. Gamers will
      enjoy the “Voices of Darkness” plug-in. Additional presets are available
      to download for a fee when you purchase the full version.

      Install Vocal Transformation Pro
      (see Resources). Click the “+” or “-” buttons to make your voice sound
      hoarse, change the pitch, give it a more nasal quality or adjust the
      texture. Combine each parameter to create a unique voice for live audio
      effects. Vocal Transformation Pro is available to download as a trial
      version.

      Download AV Voice Changer
      Diamond (see Resources). Use the “Voice Morpher” table to create your
      own unique vocal effects. You can also choose from a wider variety of
      presets including those that mimic animal
      noises that can be blended with more human effects using the “Parody
      Mixer.” The free version offers limited functionality compared to the
      full version available for purchase.

Tips & Warnings

  • Both Vocal
    Transformation Pro and AV Voice Changer allow you to apply effects to
    digitized audio files and save the altered files to your hard drive.
