october 10th 2012 @ 2:20pm lexmark chat about ink cartridge

blinking but i turned it off and then  i turned it back on it was alright

[mary z] just now not printing

[Marco] I see. We will try to check if the issue is due to
the printer hardware or the software.

[mary z] i cant afford a new printer so need to make this
wone work agin

[mary z] neeed to make this one work again

[Marco] I see. We will try to check if the issue is due to
the printer hardware or the software. May I know the exact model of the
printer? It is usually located in front of the printer near the wireless
indicator or the printer buttons.

[mary z] it is a z31

[mary z] th blank page is printitng teh cartridge moves
across teh page and the ink is flooding but nothing on the page like written

[Marco] I see. Just to confirm, are the cartridges genuine,
non-refilled or remanufactured, Lexmark?

[mary z] they are staples compatable with lexmark #70

[mary z] but i have used those for years… no problem

[mary z] i thought it was teh ink cartridge and when i had
anorder sent adn nothign was printing and ntohing was comming out the bottom…
i refilled it… adnteh sponge felt dry

[Marco] I see. I apologize, Mary. Re-manufactured cartridges
can have different contacts from the genuine Lexmark cartridges and Lexmark
printer. If the contacts of the re-manufactured cartridge doesn’t match the
contacts on the printer, the printer will read an empty or very low ink level
and sometimes causes printer errors. I think that’s what’s happening right now.

It is not possible to reset the cartridge because it has
different contacts that’s why the printer is not able to read the ink level of
that cartridge.

Refilled cartridges may or may not work. Most of the times,
the printer will read an empty or very low ink level and sometimes causes
printer errors. It will also be able to print but producing blank pages. There
are instances that the printer will not be able to read the refilled cartridge.
I think that’s what’s happening right now.

[mary z] but i love this printer… and i have this jerk who
likes messing with my computers and my gadgets… he probably did something …
can you raise the ink cartridges so they don’t reach the eh paper or something?…

[mary z] no its not  reading
empty.. when I do a clean ink cartridge test it shows it is almost full for the
ink cartridge I refilled and should be full

[mary z] if i clean off the back of the ink cartridge on the
machine and on the ink cartridge will it recognize it more?

[mary z] and what can i clean it off with .. water or alcohol
or cleaning fluid?

[mary z] will it recognize the ink cartridge ?

[mary z] please is there  is something that can be done .. simple would
be great

[Marco] I apologize, Mary. We do not recommend using alcohol
or cleaning fluid.

[mary z] i hope you are right that it is just not  recognizing the cartridge…

[Marco] Refilled cartridges may or may not work. Most of the
times, the printer will read an empty or very low ink level and sometimes
causes printer errors. It will also be able to print but producing blank pages.
There are instances that the printer will not be able to read the refilled
cartridge. I think that’s what’s happening right now.

[mary z] so i need to buy official Lexmark ink cartridges?

[Marco] That is correct.

[mary z] i can ask my mom to go and get the  new Lexmark ink cartridge at staples and see
if that workks… if it doesn’t then i can chat again.. using the chat
reference number right?

[mary z] anything else to try?

[mary z] while i have you on the chat line?

[Marco] From what I saw from your messages that you have
tried to do a clean. If a manual clean has not been done yet, you may perform
the following steps:

1. Remove the print cartridges.

2. Moisten a clean, lint-free cloth or a paper towel with
water.

3. Gently hold the cloth against the nozzles (where ink is
present) for about three seconds, and then wipe in the down direction.

4. Using another clean section of the cloth, gently hold the
cloth against the copper contacts (not where ink is present) for about three
seconds, and then wipe upwards.

5. With another clean section of the cloth, repeat steps 2
through 4 above.

6. Now take another dry cloth and clean the copper contacts
inside the cartridge carrier.

7. Allow the nozzles and contacts to dry completely.

8. Reinsert the print cartridges.

[mary z] o.k. will try that …. water.. not alcohol or
anything else right?

[Marco] That is correct.

[Marco] Please inform me if there are any issues.

[mary z] should i try to do the test page where you hold
both buttons down

[Marco] Yes you may.

[mary z] or  try to
clean print nozzles

[Marco] You may try that as well. However, if the issue still
occurs, the cartridge would require replacement.

[mary z] i held both buttons down … and then when the
lights were blinking… let up… and still a blank page

[mary z] so next try is to get a lexmark ink cartridge… to
try…. right?

[Marco] I see. I apologize. That is correct. If the issue
persists with the genuine cartridges, the issue may be with the printer
carrier.

[mary z] i tried to send a test print page and it didn’t print…

[mary z] do i need to clean the  print carrier… my mom said she thought it
looked dusty

[mary z] and now it wont do clean print nozzles…. page

[Marco] Yes you may. However, since the cartridges are
refilled, the printer may not respond or give messages.

[mary z] i cleared the printing order…
